CITY ANNOUNCES PLANS TO REHABILITATE EAST ROCK ROAD BRIDGE

(2/20/2009) NEW HAVEN- The City of New Haven announced that the East Rock Road Bridge over the Mill River will be rehabilitated. The bridge replacement project will receive federal funds under the Federal Local Bridge Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The project design is expected to begin in early 2009, with construction likely starting in 2010.

Local and state policy encourages early information to residents on such projects and encourages the public to raise any concerns with municipal officials early in the planning process. Persons seeking additional information should contact the Engineering Department at 946-6417.

The cost of the bridge rehabilitation is slated for 80% reimbursement from federal aid and 20% from municipal funds.

The federal aid for the project was authorized under the Safe, Accountable Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act – A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) administered by the Federal Highway Administration and the Connecticut Department of Transportation. [END]
